Ranked by The Online Film Critics Society as one of the best 100 animated films of all-time (#61), Transformers the Movie originally debuted in 1986 to mediocre attendance and harsh reviews. Most Transfans regard the movie as one of the highpoints of Transformers animation. The cels on this page are all production cels used to animate this classic film. Despite claims that the film was originally broadcast in widescreen, the surviving cel artwork seems to indicate otherwise. At least not "true" widescreen. Though Transformers movie cels are larger than their TV counterparts, the aspect ratio is comparable. It is believed that the movie cels were "matted" at the top and bottom to simulate a "widescreen" perspective when the film appeared in theatres.
